So my name is Laurent Sculier. I am Head of Fleet & Remarketing for the European region.
So my background from an education perspective, is being a Lawyer. I went to Legal Science. I have spent all of my career with long term and short term rental. I worked for Europcar in the 90s, working for LeasePlan for a few years, then joining Avis Europe in 2005.
So my function is looking after the Fleet for the European region. We look after a Fleet of about 110,000 units, and the function itself is about making sure we've got the right Fleet in the right place at the right time to serve our customers.
By renewing the Fleet every year we make sure that the Fleet that we are buying is supporting the commercial strategy. We make sure that we have the latest models, we have the latest engines, and the latest technologies in our cars. So that our customers can always benefit from a very fresh Fleet.
So I have two kind of teams. I have a small highly skilled central team, it's about seven people but very much experts in their fields. Everything from Fleet procurement to Fleet remarketing and system management.
I also have four regional teams located in the Southern region, Western region, Central region and the UK. So it's a combination of both. The central team seven people, the local teams are about, altogether, 120 people looking after the Fleets overall in Europe.
I think the Fleet function is very broad in the Company, so it's very appealing because you can do a number of jobs in that function. We are in the core of what this Company does, by providing a car to a customer, you can do everything from Fleet procurement, Fleet remarketing, managing systems, optimising the Fleet.
It's a function that can provide a lot of opportunities as such, but those that can lead you to other functions in the Company. I have got members of my team who went to Operations, went to Finance, went to other departments after spending a few years in the Fleet department. So, at the core of the business is, I believe, where the great opportunity is.
I think this is a great place to work, we are now a very innovative Company. We are spending a lot of investment in different areas of the business. We did a re-launch of the Budget brand two years ago and we are still investing a lot of energy into the brand.
We have other brands coming Payless and Apex. We also acquired ZIP as a car sharing Company about a year ago, and that will bring another dimension to our car rental activities. And furthermore we are investing a lot of energy and a lot of money to create a nice working environment for employees.
We are injecting a lot of capital into the different HQs and different offices across Europe. So a great place to work with a lot of potential.
