My name is Sara, I'm an Account Manager here at Avis Budget Group.
It's a role I fell into naturally; I started as a sales administrator about 11 years ago. And maybe a few years later there was a role that came up as an account manager and my manager approached me and said 'you know, you've got a good way with people, how about you give it a try?' and I've never looked back again.
We're the face of the brand with our corporate customers, and we look after VIPs, we process preferreds we try to increase as many as we possibly can to get them all onto the system, customer service issues, anything and everything really. If they're travelling in New Zealand, we try and give them the best service, and if they're travelling overseas too, we get so many international hearings, so every day is a different day.
An unusual day? Probably sitting in the office all day. It's definitely a job where you're never stationary, you're always out and about, on the road, meeting people. Yeah, account manager is a role where you'll just want to touch on all facets of the business, whether it's credit, accounts, add account, reservations, we just want to make sure it's a great same process the whole way through.
Values and skills that you definitely need to apply to this role as an account manager: confidence, really important, enthusiasm, also super important, and a real kind of pride in your brand too, so definitely all of the above are super important.
I've actually had quite a lot of training in development whilst I've been here. Avis Budget Group has been very supportive in terms of developing people's education, so personally I've done my own graduate certificate in Sales Management and I've also done a Master's in Business, which Avis Budget Group have supported me through, so they've been really awesome in helping me through there.
Possibilities of where a career at Avis Budget Group can take you are endless really. We're in 100 countries and locations. Being an account manager, you oversee so many parts of the business that I feel I could slot in any of the areas, reservations, customer service, management, branches ... So yeah I really feel like it's a role that could take me anywhere globally, which is an amazing opportunity.
The team at Avis Budget Group is absolutely amazing, I can honestly say hand over heart: it's like working with family. I can consider my entire team just like sisters and brothers and I actually enjoy coming in to work every day. So it's actually really like an amazing family atmosphere, so I'm very lucky.
