I'm Michelle Harford-Webb, I'm the HR Business Partner for EMEA Operations. I work closely with the senior leadership team across the EMEA operations, and together we'll develop and deliver an HR agenda that is closely aligned with the company's overall strategy. It's a very people-focused environment that I work in, so one day I can be talking to front-line staff rental sales agents and helping them out with technical issues or personal issues, and the next day I'm talking to a manager helping them with people issues as well, so it's great that it is so focused and centred around people.
In my job there isn't a normal working day, so it's very very varied. Everything is focused around the strategy, the projects, personal development ... Challenges are: everybody is very busy. And, you know, trying to work with people and align priorities. For me simply, it's really friendly, very hard-working. I think all of our employees have the same work ethic, work hard play hard, very friendly environment.
So the social side is what you want to make of it really. There is always groups and teams of people going out for dinner, for lunch, going and do some exercise in the park across the road, an event, a sporting event on the weekend, something like that.
The people I work with day to day, they're very hard-working but they're lovely people. You know, they're very knowledgeable, they'll do anything to help you.
You have to be a listener, really important to listen to people. You have to be a problem solver, and you have to be able to deliver you results. These are the 3 things that have made me successful in my role.
So there are literally hundreds of training courses across Avis Budget Group. I'm able to tailor the training that I need to enhance my development. The great thing about Avis Budget Group is, we have a really great mobility programme, which means it gives all of our employees the opportunity to look at the roles available internally and be considered for them.
Looking at my own career is being given the opportunity to look after an additional country, as well as EMEA, which is Singapore. I have a great relationship with my line manager; he's really invested in my personal development. He's been there to support me all the time and give me feedback and advice along the way. In a nutshell, I like to think that the work I do makes a difference to our employees here. What I really like is that I see that pretty much on a daily basis, whether somebody says thank you to you, they come and have a chat with you, or they actually come and tell you what a difference it's made to them.
So for me, every day I can see the value that I add to the business and to the employees and I get a real sense of job satisfaction.
