My name is Laura Delizia and I'm a Learning and Development Consultant. A Learning and Development Consultant does a lot of training within the organization, so I help design and develop training programmes for all employees of every area in the company.
A normal working day for me would be definitely answering some help line calls, so definitely assisting our agents at the counters with any issues they may have on the systems, and also working on a lot of individual projects that we get assigned.
Yes, there are challenges in my role, and that would be more of being the role of an investigator with a lot of enquiries that we receive. They may not always be training related, therefore we always need to be researching a little bit more, to give them an answer.
An unusual day for me would be not being able to repeat myself. We get asked the same questions, many times during the day, so it's like we're a bit of a broken record at times. One other thing you may not know about being a Learning and Development Consultant is that we do a lot of projects that may not be training related and more about the system and we do a lot of testing behind that as well.
The work that I do makes a very big difference to ABG, because we assist in providing the knowledge, the skills for employees to be doing their roles as we expect them to.
Some strengths that you will need and some skills to be in Learning and Development is being able to, want to be customer-focused, being nurturing enough to assist people with their learning needs. A lot of my training in Development is a lot of my projects, because they need me to research and find out a little bit more information, but overall we also do have ABG University, that's available to all employees to access as many courses as they'd like to do, which are self-paced and online.
Where I see my career going is staying where I am, I really enjoy what I do; there is quite a few challenges and I love the variety of the people that I speak with. But of course being in ABG there are always a lot of opportunities that you can take. The support that I get from my manager is definitely valuable to me. She does have an open-door policy, it is also available on a personal and professional level, which helps me to strive to do my best.
My team is very welcoming, we work extremely well together. The culture here is very welcoming, very open and there is a social side: I've definitely made life-long friends here.
What makes ABG different to other employers is, I have been with ABG for the last 16 years, which is has been most of my working career and I absolutely enjoy coming in every day and don't want to leave.
