Hi, my name is Federica and I work for Avis Budget Group as a Rental Sales Agent, on the front desk. I've been working for Avis for 14 years now, after starting on a temporary contract in the busy summer period. After that, my role turned into a permanent position and I started my career.
It's great working with Avis. The working day is 8 hours long and throughout the day anything could happen. Every day is different from the last. Sometimes it can be very busy and stressful, but at the end of the day you can clearly admit to yourself that your work has helped the business to grow, so it's a nice place to work.
My role consists of helping customers with reservations at the front desk. So I try to put a lot of time into ensuring that the people who rent with us enjoy their time in our cars. In a nutshell, we welcome the customer at the front desk, check their details, and prepare the rental agreement. Then all that's left to do is provide them with the car key. As you can probably understand, we are the first real person the customer comes into contact with.
You need to love working, love working with people. After that, in order to give good service it helps to have some knowledge of vehicles in order to propose the best vehicle to the customer. Your knowledge helps make the rental much more enjoyable and relaxing for the customer. Therefore some knowledge is better.
We have lots of training, period. And now, a lot of that training comes online. Avis Budget University provides a lot of training, even in the high season, but that's ok as the training gives us the chance to improve ourselves, so we will never get bored. That's nice because I became a good sales person, and I never thought I'd have that ability. The training helps you discover skills you never thought you had.
On the front desk we are approximately 5 people. It's nice because we've worked together for many years. We are relaxed, except when we're busy. We understand how to speak to each other, and treat each other, so that if there are any moments when someone is nervous, a smile or a nice word... The way you treat people can help them relax.
My boss is the person you go to when there's a problem in the office. It's nice because he is sometimes authoritative and at others, he's quick with a funny word, so it's a good balance. He has lots of colour inside him. He's kaleidoscopic!
